Lifestyle medicine is an evidence-based approach to population care, addressing up to 80% of chronic disease cases, increasing patient/provider satisfaction, and decreasing provider burnout. With it’s aim to improve health outcomes, lower cost, improve patient & provider wellbeing, this value-based healthcare delivery system is ideal for athletic trainers, who consistently function as a gatekeeper & patient advocate.

Through therapeutic, lifestyle interventions, lifestyle medicine address 6 pillars: nutrition (i.e. plant-based eating patterns, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances and positive social connections. Commonly, identifying and promoting a sense of purpose is also included. The goal of this presentation will be to motivate and identify interventions and strategies for ATs to incorporate into daily patient care in the physician practice setting.
