Tony Pennuto received his Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Iowa in 2010. He then went on to complete his Master of Science at the University of Idaho in 2011.  In 2012 Tony completed the UW Health Athletic Training Residency.

Since then, he has been an advocate for athletic trainers and their clinical utility in the physician practice setting. While working at Children’s Hospital Colorado, he piloted the successful implementation of an AT in spine specialty clinics, led quarterly journal clubs  and developed the framework for their Athletic Training Residency. In 2018, Tony was recruited to the University of Iowa to lead the Athletic Training Residency through the accreditation process. Under his leadership, the University of Iowa Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation have added 8 new full-time clinical athletic training positions. Since 2018, Tony has also contributed to the construction of the Orthopedic Specialty Certification exam in combination with the BOC.

Tony is especially thankful to his mentors and colleagues close to home and around the country along with current and former residents who have helped challenge his perceptions, collaborate on ideas, guide him through rough patches and improve his clinical skills.
