The clinical athletic trainer at Children’s Wisconsin collaborates with various physicians, advanced practice providers, and their support teams within the Ambulatory Orthopedic Service Line to deliver direct patient care to pediatric and adolescent populations. The athletic trainer primarily assists in evaluating patients, developing and communicating customized care plans for patients and their families, and administering educational content under the direction of the attending provider. They operate within the domains established by the Board of Certification, focusing on the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of orthopedic injuries and illnesses as they care for patients, while also adhering to experiential knowledge and evidence-based guidelines.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in athletic training is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
Board of Certification (BOC) for athletic trainers is required.
Current CPR certification – Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.
State of Wisconsin Athletic Training licensure is required (or must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
One year of athletic training experience with adolescent or pediatric patients is preferred.
Ability to work with a diverse patient population to ensure a culturally competent environment.
