Sean Burfeind is a residency trained and board certified athletic trainer. Sean works as an Enterprise Strategy Consultant with UNC Health in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Sean began his career after graduation with his Master's degree at Daemen College in Amherst, New York. He then went on to complete an athletic training residency at St. Luke's Hospital in Boise, Idaho. After completion of his residency, Sean worked in Northern Virginia as a clinical athletic trainer where he has been able to strengthen his clinical skills both in the private practice and hospital clinical settings.

Sean has published several peer reviewed journal articles and has presented at national conferences on the impact of athletic trainers working in the physician practice setting. He was appointed to a workgroup position within the National Athletic Trainers Association's Committee on Practice Advancement labeled 'Athletic Trainers in the Physician Practice Workgroup'. There he was able to advocate for those athletic trainers working in the physician practice setting as well as help develop educational content and workshops specific to their educational needs. He was also appointed a committee seat on the Residency and Fellowship Standards Committee of CAATE where he worked with the committee to review and rewrite/write residency and fellowship program standards which have recently been updated and published.

After completing his Master of Healthcare Administration, he was accepted to an administrative fellowship with UNC Health Caldwell where he served as a key member to the Lean department responsible for the patient throughput and Heart & Vascular value streams, facilitating lean events and leading system wide projects to improve patient care and efficiencies within each of those areas.

A native of Western New York, Sean now resides in the Greater Charlotte region with his wife, Tori, son, Colsen and Dalmation, Asher. He enjoys spending time with his friends and family, traveling, golfing and exploring on the weekends.
