Tanya “Max” Maxwell, MS, LAT, ATC, OTC, is a licensed Athletic Trainer working in Atlanta, Georgia with Emory Orthopaedics, Sports and Spine. In her current role, she serves as Assistant Director of Patient Care Services.
As a collegiate athlete, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and her Master of Science in Sports Medicine from Georgia State University. Max earned the distinction of becoming the first Athletic Trainer, in Georgia, to be employed in a clinical setting. In addition to her role as a clinical AT with Peachtree Orthopedics, she also assisted the Director of Sports Medicine for Georgia State University Athletics department. She was instrumental in helping both organizations grown their sports medicine departments over the next twenty-nine years before moving on to further pursue her career in an academic, hospital-based practice.
A native of Toronto, Canada, Max is an active member on various committees including: the Young and New Professionals Committee and the Advocacy Council and Awards Task Force with the American Alliance of Orthopaedic Executives (AAOE), Emory’s Ambulatory Practice Committee. She is also participating in a CAATE workgroup driving the benefits of accreditation for residency trained ATs which aids her in supporting new and current ATs. She is a foodie who enjoys travelling and cheering on her beloved Panthers. Max, her wife Rhonda and their fur babies currently reside in Decatur, GA.
